Tendonitis of the shoulder PDF Print E-mail

Tendonitis is the inflammation of one or more tendons (i.e., the cords of connective tissue that join muscle and bone).

Tendonitis of the shoulder often occurs in people who work or practice sports with their arms in an elevated position. The main symptoms are pain at one or more specific points on the shoulder that increases when working at arm’s length, and a loss of joint mobility. The recommended initial treatment is to avoid painful movements and to apply ice to the area. Anti-inflammatory medication can also assist in recovery. Physiotherapy, which can be used concurrently, may help reduce pain and inflammation, maintain and/or restore shoulder mobility, and strengthen muscles, so that you can resume your daily activities.
