Neck pain, also called cervicodynia, can result from a car accident, a sudden movement or a fall, among others.

Stress, staying in the same position for a long period of time and poor posture can also lead to neck pain. Other symptoms may include muscle tension, loss of mobility or pain that radiates to the arms or upper back. Neck pain can also be accompanied by headaches. While a cervical collar may be effective during the first few days, it should not be worn for extended periods of time. Physiotherapy can help with traction, advice on posture, stretching and electrotherapy. Home exercises may also be recommended as part of the treatment.
